Classic Martini Recipe
How to Make the Ultimate Dry Martini at Home
The Martini is an iconic and classic cocktail that everyone on the planet knows on sight, but it’s not necessarily a cocktail that everyone has tried.
As a spirit-forward cocktail, the Martini isn’t be for everyone. The classic original Martini is made with gin, while the vodka Martini gained great popularity in the mid-1900s (legend has it that this was because vodka did not leave you with “martini breath” after a three martini lunch).
The Martini is probably one of the easiest drinks to create. It's simple, but the process and details matter to ensure a positive and enjoyable guest experience.
Martini Ingredients
2-1/2 oz London Dry Gin
1/2 oz dry vermouth
This is a good mix ratio for a dry gin Martini. Garnish your Martini with one to three olives on a cocktail skewer as a traditional way to go, while a twist of lemon is also an option. Some bartenders will add a dash or two of orange bitters, but that's something to be sure your guests will want as Martini drinkers can be very particular about how they like their cocktail.
You can take the vermouth up to 1 oz for those who want a little more tartness and a less dry martini.
For a Vodka Martini, substitute a high quality vodka for the London Dry Gin. Since the vodka is the star of the show here with nowhere to hide, use the best you have when mixing up any Martini for guests.
