The Quick and Easy Way to Make a Classic Daiquiri

The Daiquiri is a quick and easy drink to mix and has a past that has seen celebrated as the pinnacle of elegance and also a party-bar favorite with wide appeal for many years.

Today, as the cocktail culture looks to refine the classic cocktails from the past, being able to create a well-balanced Daiquiri is a skill worth having.

Much like the Margarita (currently the most popular cocktail globally), there are many flavor profiles within the Daiquiri family, but it’s important to begin with the classic original.

Daiquiri Ingredients

  • 2 oz light white rum

  • 1 oz lime juice (fresh squeezed)

  • 1 oz simple syrup

Simple elegance, the Daiquiri.

Making a Daiquiri is easy. It follows the 2:1:1 cocktail ratio rule, ensuring a well balanced and refreshing drink. The rum should be a light white rum, and not a gold, dark or spiced rum. If you want to reduce the sugar content, then it’s common to reduce the simple syrup to 3/4 ounce or even 1/2 ounce. As always, taste and experiment with the ratio to find your sweet spot (pun intended).

A Daiquiri is shaken over ice to be well chilled and then strained into a cocktail glass for serving. If you want to go elegant, use a coupe glass (pictured). If want to be a little less showy, a rocks glass is fine. I have seen Daiquiris served in wine glasses, Martini glasses and more. So feel free to make it your own. Having a chilled glass is a nice bonus.

Garnish the Daiquiri with a twist of lime and you're all done.
