Kona Big Wave Golden Ale: Review
Why this beer from Kona Brewing Deserves a Place in Your Home Bar
If you're looking for a great beer to try at home and you've never tried Big Wave Golden Ale by Kona Brewing of Hawaii, it's definitely worth your consideration.
I first tried Big Wave many many years ago while on vacation in Hawaii -- long before it became widely available in North America (which it is now and that's a good thing). For starters, I like golden ales, but I was immediately drawn to its refreshing, crisp and smooth taste. For me, Big Wave was became something I linked to sun, sand and surf in Hawaii. The "Liquid Aloha" statement on the bottle resonates with me for that very reason. I have tried several of the Kona Brewing offerings, but Big Wave is still my favorite.
Guests of the Grand One Lounge also love Kona Big Wave. In fact, there are many friends and family members who first tasted Big Wave here, and who now purchase it regularly.
Big Wave Goes Down Easy and With Great Flavor
Kona Big Wave is an easy drinking beer. On the IBU beer bitterness scale, Kona Big Wave is a 21 (the scale goes up to 120 on the high end, so Big Wave is not bitter like some stouts and pale ales, for example).
Big Wave has a very light body with a bright flavor profile, making it perfect for a sunny summer afternoon or an evening inside. For me, it's the subtle citrus notes that give it a refreshing profile. I also get tropical fruit (pineapple) notes, while others find toasted nuts and grains, bananas. ABV is 4.4% on our local packaging.
Next on my list to try from Kona Brewing (if I can ever find them locally or while on vacation) are the Kona Light Blonde Ale and the Mai Time Light.
In the meantime, whenever I feel like a little taste of Hawaii, I'll reach for a crisp cool Kona Big Wave. Grand One Lounge Recommended.

A Note about Reviewed Beverages on GrandOneLounge.com
I don't post beverage reviews in a typical manner. While I taste and review a lot of beer, wine, spirits, canned adult beverages and non-alcoholic (NA) spirits, I only post reviews for products that I would personally recommend. I do not post negative reviews, as taste is personal. Anything posted on GrandOneLounge.com as a review is something that I would personally recommend trying in your own home bar.
