A great all-around Riesling with a pleasantly robust and full fruity flavor

Peller Family Reserve Riesling is a VQA Niagara wine produced by Peller Estates.

Peller Family Reserve Riesling 2020 Overview

Peller Family Reserve Riesling 2020 is a semi-sweet (or off-dry) Riesling that is light and bright (although Peller refers to this wine as dry, I would categorize it as semi-sweet). This Riesling has a clear yellow-gold color tone and an ABV of 11%.

Peller Family Reserve Riesling Aroma

Before taking a sip, I gave this Riesling a swirl in the glass to see what aromas I could detect and how pleasant the pre-drink experience would be.

The aroma is medium intensity and a little muted, but it is still bright and moderately fruity and lightly sweet. I would say it is a pleasant and welcoming first experience with this wine.

Specific aromas I could detect included a hint of citrus (perhaps a lemon note), along with apple and a general rich ripe fruit aroma that I could not pin down specifically. It all combined into a fruit-forward scent.

Peller Family Reserve Riesling On First Sip

On first sip, Peller Reserve Riesling comes across as sweeter than I was expecting based on the muted aroma, however, it is not too sweet by any means.

The tropical fruit flavor is definitely there, along with the apple (more Granny Smith when tasting than the aroma would have indicated). All of the flavors increase as the finish progresses.

There is a very pleasant medium finish and a good balance between the sweetness and the acidity.

Peller Winery Tasting Notes

For the sommeliers out there, Peller notes:

Medium-bodied and dry, this Riesling is soft and easy drinking. Fruity flavours on the palate are followed by a refreshing citrus finish that goes well with grilled seafood and cream sauce pastas.

Final Thoughts

The Peller Family Reserve Riesling 2020 is a great all-around white wine, assuming you enjoy a Riesling.

This wine has a pleasant and fairly robust full fruity flavor profile, but not in a cloying sweet way at all.

Peller Family Reserve Riesling 2020 would be a great choice to enjoy sipping on its own or to pair with your meal of your choice. I find it to be quite adaptable in that way. It goes particularly well with grilled foods, making it a good choice for your summer barbecue pairing.

All in all, it is a very refreshing and well-balanced Riesling worth a spot on your wine rack.

Peller Estates is located in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario.
